That's what the instruction manuals and the in-game text say - so that's her name. When I was a young kid, I thought the princess had a pretty funny name. From my interpretation, toads are a type of frog, and stool can literally mean crap. So um, I thought she was being called the princess of frog crap.

Why is Princess Toadstool now called Princess Peach?

Princess Peach [a] is a character in Nintendo 's Mario franchise. Originally created by Shigeru Miyamoto , Peach is the princess of the fictional Mushroom Kingdom , which is constantly under attack by Bowser. She often plays the damsel in distress role within the series and is the lead female character, often being portrayed as Mario 's love interest.

I received a question from Mark W. Princess Daisy, sort of. Princess Peach was renamed Princess Toadstool in the American releases of the early games in the Mario franchise. Except Super Mario Land had a different localization team, resulting in some enemies getting a second English name and Princess Peach being named Princess Daisy. For the next decade, Nintendo ignored this little oddity.
